Professional Training
Registered Energy Manager (REM) Type 1 Training
The Registered Energy Manager (REM) Type 1 is a five-day intensive professional training programme conducted by UTM through UTM SPACE, a registered training institution under Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST). The programme equips participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in energy management, energy efficiency, energy auditing, and compliance with Malaysia's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2024 (EECA 2024). Key topics include energy policies and legislation, Energy Management Systems (EnMS), energy audits, and Energy Saving Measures (ESMs) for lighting, compressed air, HVAC systems, motors, pumps, and fans.
2026 intakes: 19–23 January · 9–13 February · 4–8 May · 10–14 August · 16–20 November 2026.
Suitable for: Engineers, facility managers, energy consultants, sustainability officers, and professionals involved in energy management and facility operations.
Certification: REM Type 1 certificate issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), subject to their requirements and approval.
Fee: RM 4,900 per participant (HRDC claimable rate), RM 4,600 per participant (normal rate)

International Mobility
UTM and Universitas Negeri Malang Strengthen Ties Through AI-Powered Inbound Mobility
18–24 October 2026, UTM Johor Bahru: the Faculty of Civil Engineering hosted a week-long staff and student inbound mobility programme with Fakultas Teknik, Universitas Negeri Malang (Indonesia) — funded by iESC under UTM ASCEND 2030 and themed “People • Knowledge • Innovation for a Sustainable Future”. The programme paired seminars on AI tools for ESG and community-based project design with biodiversity tracking from Balai Cerap to Lata Jernih and a technical visit to Kampung Sungai Melayu.

UTMCCS Drives BCSI Readiness Towards Green Building Index Certification
23 October 2026, UTM Johor Bahru: the Centre for Campus Sustainability (UTMCCS) convened the GBI implementation coordination meeting at Dewan Senat, Bangunan Canseleri Sultan Ibrahim, to assess how prepared every responsibility centre housed in BCSI is for Green Building Index assessment. Chaired by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Zaini Ahmad, the session drew Dato’ Ir. Mohammed Noor Abu Hassan — University Board member and patron of UTM’s GBI implementation — together with the building’s Green Managers, Green Captains and Green Champions.

40 Johor Schools Put Their Climate Smarts on Show at Sutera Mall
20 October 2026, Johor Bahru: the 12th RCE Iskandar Sustainable & Low Carbon Schools Exhibition 2026 drew more than 300 visitors to Sutera Mall, where 40 schools selected from over 100 applicants showcased their environmental initiatives. Jointly organised by MBIP, UTM, the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ) and Sutera Mall under the Government–University–Community–Industry collaboration, the day paired judging by UTM, JPNJ, JAS, SWM Environment and Foon Yew High School with talks by sustainability speakers — among them UTM’s Dr. Syaza Soraya Sauli on “Butterfly Mission”.

Aquaculture
Kelah Project at UTM Pagoh Builds Bumiputera Aquaculture Entrepreneurs
20 October 2026, UTM Kampus Pagoh: a TERAJU-funded freshwater aquaculture project — RM2.1 million under the Dana Pembangunan Usahawan Bumiputera, reaching 15 participants around Johor — operates its ponds at the Innovation Centre in Agritechnology for Advanced Bioprocessing (ICA). Built in August 2024 and stocked with kelah and red tilapia a month later, the site runs a recirculating aquaculture system with UV filtration and IoT remote monitoring; red tilapia yields about 250 kg every three months, while kelah is marketed through a buy-back arrangement with Far East Planet Agrofarm.

Terra Vibes: Turning Glass Jars into Mini Ecosystems
16 October 2026, UTM Johor Bahru: “Terra Vibes: Walk into Mini Nature” — run by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International) with the School of Undergraduate Studies for Bulan Akademia UTM 2026 — had seven faculties build terrariums layer by layer, from gravel for drainage and activated charcoal as a filter to organic soil, live moss and small plants. The Faculty of Science took top honours, followed by the Faculty of Built Environment & Surveying and the Faculty of Chemical & Energy Engineering, and students from Universitas PGRI Semarang, Indonesia, performed at the closing ceremony.

UTM Hosts Forum Iklim Kebangsaan 2026: Strengthening Disaster Preparedness
13 October 2026, UTM Johor Bahru: UTM hosted the National Climate Forum (FIK) 2026, organised by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) with UTM's Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), under the theme “Kesiapsiagaan Hari Ini, Ketahanan Masa Hadapan”. At Dewan Sultan Iskandar the forum covered the 2026/2027 Northeast Monsoon outlook and integrated disaster-risk management, and saw the launch of the myCuaca 3.0 weather app.
