Overview

Connecting education, training, and research with real-world sustainability challenges

The Industry Linkages component of the UTM One Stop Centre (OSC) for Green Jobs Education serves as a strategic interface between academia, industry, and community stakeholders.

It ensures that education, training, and research activities at UTM remain responsive to real-world sustainability challenges and evolving green labour-market demands. Through structured partnerships, the OSC facilitates co-creation of knowledge, skills development, and applied solutions, positioning UTM as a key contributor to Malaysia's and ASEAN's transition towards a sustainable and circular economy.

Strategic Objectives

The Industry Linkages platform is designed to achieve the following objectives

  1. Align academic programmes and micro-credentials with industry needs and ESG requirements
  2. Strengthen graduate employability in green and sustainability-related sectors
  3. Facilitate technology transfer and innovation adoption
  4. Promote multi-stakeholder collaboration across government, industry, and community
  5. Support evidence-based policy and sustainability practices

Key Engagement Mechanisms

Structured channels for collaboration and co-creation

๐Ÿ”—

Industry Advisory & Co-Creation

The OSC engages industry partners in curriculum co-development (green skills, ESG competencies), validation of micro-credentials and training modules, and identification of emerging job roles such as ESG analyst and sustainability engineer.

Outcome: Ensures UTM graduates are equipped with industry-relevant and future-ready competencies.
๐Ÿ’ผ

Internships & Work-Based Learning

The OSC coordinates industrial placements in sustainability-related sectors, structured internships aligned with green jobs pathways, and industry-based project assignments.

Outcome: Bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, enhancing graduate readiness.
๐Ÿ”ฌ

Joint Research & Innovation

The OSC supports collaboration in applied research in environmental engineering, water, waste, and circular economy; AI-enabled sustainability solutions such as digital twins and data analytics; and ESG reporting and compliance systems.

Outcome: Accelerates innovation, knowledge transfer, and industry adoption of sustainable technologies.
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Industry Roundtables & Stakeholder Dialogues

The OSC organises roundtable discussions with industry leaders and policymakers, sector-specific dialogues (water, waste, energy, ESG finance), and knowledge-sharing platforms under TUNE and UTM initiatives.

Outcome: Facilitates continuous feedback loops between academia and industry.
๐ŸŒ

Community & Living Lab Engagement

The OSC promotes community-based sustainability projects, campus and regional living labs, and industry-supported USR & CSR initiatives.

Outcome: Enhances societal impact and experiential learning while addressing real sustainability challenges.
