UTM meterai MoU bersama Jabatan Tenaga Atom perkukuh penyelidikan STEM

UTM has undertaken high-impact, policy-focused research in collaboration with a key national government department by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jabatan Tenaga Atom (JTA) (Department of Atomic Energy). This partnership is explicitly designed to promote and strengthen cooperation in academic research related to the safety, security, and regulation of atomic energy. The collaboration directly fulfills the requirement for policy-focused research by extending an existing relationship to focus on high-impact research projects and knowledge exchange, which directly informs JTA's regulatory and security mandates concerning atomic materials and technology. Furthermore, the initiative aligns with the government's National Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (DSTIN 2021−2030), ensuring UTM’s research expertise is effectively harnessed to support national economic development and policy objectives in a highly specialized and regulated sector.

Sarawak govt contributes RM5 million to UTM for research and development

UTM is undertaking significant policy-focused research in collaboration with the government through a RM5 million contribution from the Sarawak Government via the Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS). This funding is dedicated to the JTS-UTM Satellite Laboratory collaboration, which focuses R&D on areas critical to the state’s long-term policy and development strategy.

Specifically, the funds support policy-focused research in:

  1. Climate Change and Green Economy: Providing the evidence base for Sarawak's transition toward a sustainable economy.
  2. Geospatial Studies and Remote Sensing: Supplying critical, multi-layered data for efficient urban and regional planning, disaster management, and infrastructure development—directly addressing the Premier’s call for integrated data for public works.
  3. Mining, Marine Cadastre, and Urban Planning: Generating specialized knowledge required for the sustainable management of Sarawak’s natural resources and rapid physical development.

The research is specifically tailored to contribute to Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. By integrating academic expertise with government agency needs, this high-value R&D effort directly informs and enables the execution of the state's strategic policy goals, thereby fulfilling the requirement for Participation in government research.
