 Statement of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)

At Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), we are steadfast in our commitment to fostering a sustainable, responsible, and ethical ecosystem that aligns with global best practices, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), National Transformation Agenda and the UTM Sustainability Blueprint 2030. Guided by our core values—Integrity, Synergy, Excellence, and Sustainability (ISES)—we integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into our academic, research, operational, and community engagement initiatives. Our ultimate goals to serve and positioning UTM contribution towards Planetary Health elements in our core business action-plan and green talent development

Environmental Responsibility

UTM integrates low-carbon initiatives, circular economy principles, and resource optimization into its operations and academic programs to foster an eco-conscious campus ecosystem. Our environmental commitments include:

  • Net Zero Carbon Campus: Implementing decarbonization strategies to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with structured energy-efficient infrastructure, green buildings, and sustainable mobility solutions.
  • Sustainable Resource Management: Enhancing energy, water, and waste management through data-driven monitoring systems to reduce environmental impact.
  • Circular Economy & Responsible Consumption: Advancing waste reduction, sustainable procurement, and green technology adoption through smart waste tracking and recycling programs.
  • Biodiversity & Ecosystem Conservation: Strengthening green spaces, sustainable urban planning, and environmental resilience strategies to balance natural and built environments.
  • Climate Resilience & Sustainable Innovation: Developing living laboratories (Living Labs) and research clusters that foster climate solutions and sustainable innovations.

These initiatives align with UTM’s Strategic Priority Areas (SPA 1, 2, and 3), reinforcing our leadership in environmental sustainability.
