1.3.5 Low or lower-middle income countries student support

UTM and The Amjad Foundation Ink Partnership to Support Palestinian Students

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) demonstrates a clear, targeted, and coordinated approach to supporting students from lower-middle income countries, directly fulfilling the criteria for Indicator 1.3.5.

The evidence provided documents a formal partnership between UTM and The Amjad Foundation, establishing a specific scheme to "support Palestinian students". Palestine is classified by the World Bank as a lower-middle-income economy, aligning this initiative perfectly with the indicator's target demographic.

This initiative is not a general bursary but a "targeted and coordinated approach", as evidenced by the formal partnership with an external foundation. This structure ensures a continuous support mechanism designed to provide financial assistance, such as grants or scholarships, that enables these students to "successfully complete their studies".

The existence of this programme is verified and made public through the university's official news channel, satisfying the methodology's requirement for publicly available evidence. This partnership serves as a definitive example of a scheme to support students from a specified low or lower-middle income country, addressing the financial barriers they face in pursuing higher education.
