10.6.7 : Accessible facilities

UTM, through various initiatives and offices, ensures the provision of specific accessible facilities, which are often categorized under the broader umbrella of "Keperluan & Kemudahan" (Needs & Facilities) and "Laluan Orang Kelainan Upaya (OKU)" (OKU Pathways).

  • Faculty-Level Implementation (FABU): The Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), as part of its sustainability and welfare initiatives, explicitly lists the provision of "Keperluan & Kemudahan" (Needs & Facilities) and "Laluan Orang Kelainan Upaya (OKU)" (OKU Pathways) under its welfare goal. This decentralized implementation ensures that accessibility is not just a campus-wide policy but is actively managed and maintained at the faculty level.
  • Centralized Infrastructure Oversight: The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) Office website confirms its direct involvement in OKU-related facilities and Hospitality, indicating that the planning and maintenance of these accessible areas are managed by a senior development office to ensure strategic and compliant provision across the university.

Comprehensive Support Initiatives

Beyond physical infrastructure, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Office manages several key support services to create an accessible academic and residential experience:

  • Welfare and Special Needs Support: The Student Affairs division outlines various "Inisiatif Bagi Golongan Kurang Upaya" (Initiatives for People with Disabilities). This confirms the existence of targeted programs that go beyond basic facilities to support the welfare of OKU students.
  • Holistic Approach: The programs are embedded within the student welfare structure, suggesting that UTM's support for OKU is a continuous process that encompasses student life, facilities, welfare, and discipline, ensuring that OKU students have equal opportunities to participate fully in all aspects of university life.

In summary, UTM ensures accessibility through the provision of physical facilities and pathways that are managed at the faculty level and overseen by a central development office, complemented by targeted welfare and support initiatives managed by the Student Affairs office to provide a complete and integrated accessible environment for all members of the OKU community.
