Affordable housing for students
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) provides a highly subsidized and extensive network of residential colleges that directly address the need to provide affordable housing for students across all academic levels, ensuring accessibility and minimizing financial barriers to higher education.
- Extremely Subsidized Accommodation Rates: UTM sets a benchmark for affordability by providing on-campus residence at extraordinarily low, highly subsidized daily rates. For local undergraduate students, rates for shared accommodation are as low as RM4.00 per person per day, while single rooms are only RM6.00 per day. Even premium options, such as single rooms with attached bathrooms, are capped at just RM8.00 per day for local students. These nominal fees represent a profound institutional commitment to affordability.
- Broad Residential Capacity and Coverage: The university operates numerous residential colleges (e.g., Kolej Rahman Putra, Kolej Tun Fatimah, Kolej Dato' Onn Jaafar), offering a diverse range of accommodation types and capacities to meet the needs of various student groups. This includes dedicated housing for undergraduate, postgraduate, industrial training, and physically disabled (OKU) students.
- Comprehensive and Integrated Living Environment: By providing on-campus housing, UTM significantly reduces students' living costs, minimizing the need for external rent and commuting expenses.
