15.2.6 : Sustainable management of land for tourism (educational outreach)

Kerjasama UTM-UM bantu Edutourism Taman Negara Tanjung Piai

Based on the source, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) conducted the "UTM Education Empowerment Exchange: Helping Hands Network" program to offer an advanced educational outreach on the sustainable management of land for tourism at Tanjung Piai National Park, a critical mangrove ecosystem. The program involved 24 participants who collaboratively created innovative edutourism materials. A key output was a storybook about mangrove plants featuring Augmented Reality (AR) via QR codes, which translates the importance of wild flora into an engaging digital experience. Additionally, the team developed three 'knowledge boxes' with educational activities and games to ensure the park's edutourism experience is both fun and effective in conveying scientific knowledge about conservation. These hands-on and digitally enhanced tools directly support the park's sustainable management efforts, foster environmental awareness among local and national visitors, and actively promote the long-term protection of this globally significant Ramsar site.
