Malaysia’s perspective on water resource sharing: Leveraging water for peace

To ensure long-term water resource sustainability, Malaysia must strengthen its Promoting Water Conservation initiatives through continuous public awareness campaigns. This effort involves fostering a culture of water conservation among citizens and providing educational opportunities that enable local communities to understand and practice good water management.

120 murid sekolah sertai program anjuran UTM dan Yayasan JCorp

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through its Campus Sustainability Office (UTMCS), demonstrated significant support for practical water conservation off-campus by organizing a Train of Trainers program in September 2024. This initiative involved 120 elementary school students from the Johor Bahru area, effectively transferring scientific knowledge directly into the local community.

This initiative was specifically designed to empower the younger generation with usable technical skills in managing and protecting their water resources. UTMCS staff provided direct guidance to participants on the methods for measuring river water quality and identifying the types of plants and insects around the river that serve as indicators of the water ecosystem's health.

Through this action-oriented approach, UTM ensured that students did not just receive theory, but were equipped with basic environmental monitoring skills that they can practice in their respective community rivers. The program serves as a critical platform for extending UTM's sustainability reach far beyond campus boundaries. It aligns with the university's efforts to foster a culture of water conservation and ensure water resource sustainability for a better future for the local community.
