UTM's Assistance to Low-Carbon Innovation: Empowering Karbon Hero Startup

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) provides direct, high-level technical assistance and expertise to the startup "Karbon Hero," fostering a low-carbon economy by accelerating the commercial application of advanced energy efficiency and decarbonization technologies.

UTM's impactful partnership with the low-carbon startup Karbon Hero, signed on February 20, 2024, directly fulfills the requirement to assist startups in developing low-carbon technology. This collaboration, channeled through the UTM Centre for Low Carbon Transport in Cooperation with Imperial College London (UTM LoCARtic), provides strategic and technical support:

• Accelerating Low-Carbon Technology Deployment: The core of the assistance is to "accelerate decarbonization of energy intensive industries" by applying "waste heat recovery solutions pioneered by UTM LoCARtic." UTM’s role as the knowledge provider enables the startup to quickly commercialize a sophisticated, proven low-carbon technology that reduces energy waste and lowers carbon emissions in major industrial sectors.
• Strengthening Low-Carbon Economy Services: Both parties committed to "strengthen the work of promoting more efficient use of energy" and collaborate on promoting the "application of waste heat recovery solutions." This partnership provides the startup with a credible, research-backed solution, enhancing its service offering in carbon accounting and sustainability reports, which in turn fosters a broader low-carbon economy.
• Research & Commercialization Linkage: Karbon Hero’s R&D Partnership contact is explicitly for "research grant enquiries," indicating that the startup leverages the university's research capability and expertise to secure funding and develop new low-carbon services, solidifying a pathway from academic innovation to commercial impact.
