8.2.3 : Employment policy on discrimination

UTM has a robust Diversity and Inclusive Policy (2019) that directly addresses and aims to end discrimination in the workplace for all individuals engaging with the university.
The policy's core objective is to "celebrate diversity and practice togetherness and equality" in all university affairs and "presents the University's commitment to an inclusive environment, free from discrimination for all parties who interact with the University".
Key elements of this policy confirm a prohibition on discrimination across various protected characteristics:
- Definition of Diversity: The policy defines Diversity expansively to encompass characteristics such as gender (jantina), age (umur), race (bangsa), religion (agama), nationality (warganegara), disability (orang kelainan upaya), marital status, and status (such as pregnant women or first-generation university students).
- Prohibition on Discrimination: It explicitly mandates that all University citizens must ensure there is "no discrimination, bullying, harassment and violence" (tiada diskriminasi, buli, gangguan dan keganasan) on campus.
- Equal Opportunity: The policy ensures the university provides "equal opportunities" to all citizens for "access to employment and Education".
- Employment Practices: In career matters, the university is committed to "constantly reviewing practices in recruitment, promotion, performance management, goal setting, talent management, succession planning, training and development to avoid discrimination and bias".
- Commitment to Fairness: The policy asserts the right of every university citizen "to be treated well, respected and be involved in all aspects of campus life fairly" , reinforcing a culture of non-discrimination across all interactions
