GOVERNANCE (Good Governance)
Student Representative Council
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) provides a formal mechanism for student participation in its highest academic governing body through Subsection 22(2) of the UTM Constitution. This provision states that the Senate may, from time to time, invite any person, including students, to attend meetings of the Senate. This establishes an official and constitutionally recognised channel through which student voices may be included in Senate deliberations.
Membership of the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Senate for the 2026–2029 session, representing the university’s highest academic governing body responsible for academic governance, policy deliberation, and institutional decision-making.
Membership of the UTM Senate for the 2026–2029 session, comprising key academic leaders including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Deans, and professors, as outlined under Section 22 of the UTM Constitution, as reported in https://amd.utm.my/keahlian-senat-universiti/. Although student membership is not part of this Senate structure, the provision ensures that student representation can be invited when required, particularly on matters relevant to student affairs and academic governance. This reflects a flexible and inclusive governance approach that allows the Senate to engage directly with student perspectives through formal invitation.
The inclusion of students in Senate meetings, even on an ad hoc basis, supports transparency and stakeholder engagement at the highest level of university governance. It demonstrates UTM’s commitment to participatory decision-making and ensures that student input can be considered in institutional discussions when appropriate.
