Mental Health Support
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) provides on-campus mental health support for both staff and students through structured consultation and counselling services, complemented by staff capacity-building initiatives to support student well-being. UTM Health Centre’s mental health service provides mental health consultation for the UTM community, including staff, students and dependants, with referral to the Counselling Unit or Psychiatrist where required. Appointments are arranged through the UTM Health Centre, ensuring a clear and accessible pathway for individuals seeking mental health support on campus.

UTM further ensures accessibility to mental health support through its Psychology and Counselling Service Centre (PPPK), which is strategically located on campus and easily reachable by the university community. The center publishes its on-campus location, contact information and appointment booking schedule route through the UTM portal. This demonstrates that mental health and counselling support is not only available, but systematically organised and accessible through a designated campus service point.

In addition to direct service provision, UTM strengthens mental health support through staff-focused training and awareness programmes. The workshop “Menangani Pelajar Berisiko dengan Tingkah Laku Kompleks” was organised to improve case management capacity for students facing complex behavioural risks, including aggressive behaviour, attempted self-harm and hysteria. This programme brought together university and external health stakeholders to discuss more systematic and responsive intervention approaches, supporting more effective mental health management for at-risk students.

UTM also conducted “Perkukuh Peranan Penasihat Akademik Menangani Isu Kesejahteraan Pelajar” programme, aimed at strengthening the role of academic advisors in identifying and responding to student well-being concerns, especially their mental well-being. Based on the provided material, the programme focused on helping advisors recognise early signs of emotional stress, provide appropriate initial support, and make professional referrals when needed. This broadens the university’s mental health support ecosystem by equipping frontline academic staff to identify and respond to student well-being issues earlier.
