Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) showcases a strong institutional commitment to environmental sustainability through the establishment of dedicated research centres under the Research Institute for Sustainable Environment (RISE). RISE serves as a central platform integrating multidisciplinary expertise to address complex environmental challenges, supported by an established organisational structure and dedicated academic and research staff.

Within RISE, the Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA) functions as a specialised research centre focusing on environmental sustainability, particularly in areas such as environmental management, environmental control engineering, and environmental science. IPASA operates as an interdisciplinary hub conducting research, consultancy, and graduate training, with the capacity to respond to emerging environmental issues.
The presence of a structured team of academic staff, including directors, deputy directors, research officers, and full members across RISE and IPASA, further evidences sustained research capacity and governance in environmental sustainability. Additionally, IPASA encompasses multiple specialised research domains such as climate change, green technology, water and wastewater treatment, and integrated water resource management, reinforcing its comprehensive environmental focus.
