ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT (ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY)
Assessment Tool for Assessing Sustainability Literacy and Knowledge for Student
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has implemented a comprehensive Sustainability Literacy Survey 2025 as an institutional assessment tool to evaluate sustainability knowledge, awareness, attitudes, and practices among students. The survey is explicitly aligned with the UTM Sustainability Blueprint 2030 and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, ensuring strategic integration with institutional sustainability goals.
The tool adopts a structured, multi-dimensional framework covering key components of sustainability literacy. These include awareness and understanding of sustainability concepts and institutional initiatives (e.g., familiarity with the UTM Sustainability Blueprint 2030), knowledge of global sustainability frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and attitudes towards sustainability and ESG importance.
In addition, the survey assesses behavioural practices through indicators such as recycling, energy and water conservation, sustainable transport usage, and participation in sustainability-related activities. It also captures engagement levels and willingness to contribute to sustainability efforts, alongside reflective inputs on sustainability challenges and improvement areas. This tool enables UTM to systematically measure sustainability literacy, identify gaps, and inform targeted interventions to enhance sustainability education and campus practices.
