GOVERNANCE (Good Governance)
Sustainability Committee

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has established a formal Sustainability Steering Committee as a central governance body to oversee and advance sustainability across the institution, as outlined in the UTM Sustainability Blueprint 2030. The committee is responsible for integrating sustainability into UTM’s strategic, operational, and cultural frameworks, aligning institutional priorities with global standards such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the strategic level, the committee defines long-term sustainability objectives and ensures institutional alignment through structured governance, including the use of specialised subcommittees. Operationally, it oversees the implementation of key sustainability initiatives, including resource management, infrastructure development, and environmental performance improvements. The committee also plays a role in embedding sustainability into academic functions by promoting curriculum integration and interdisciplinary research.

In addition, the committee facilitates stakeholder engagement by involving students, staff, industry partners, and external organisations in sustainability initiatives. Progress is monitored through key performance indicators (KPIs) and institutional reporting mechanisms, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement. This formalised committee structure demonstrates that UTM has an established sustainability committee with defined governance, implementation, and monitoring roles at the institutional level.
