GOVERNANCE (Good Governance)
Student Union

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has an established student union structure through the Student Representative Council (Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar, MPP), which functions as the official body representing student voices within the university governance system. The student union plays a key role in facilitating communication between students and the university administration, ensuring that student concerns, welfare, and interests are represented in institutional decision-making processes.

The MPP operates under a democratic framework where its leadership is elected through formal student elections. This election process enables students to vote for their representatives, thereby promoting transparency, accountability, and active student participation in governance. The conduct of student nominations and elections is publicly documented through official university channels, reflecting an institutionalised and structured democratic practice within the university.

In addition, initiatives led by student leadership bodies such as MPP highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen student leadership development and national-level engagement, further reinforcing the importance of elected student representation.

Overall, UTM demonstrates a clear and functioning student union system supported by regular democratic elections, ensuring that students have an active role in shaping university governance and decision-making processes.
