Centre for Campus Sustainability
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has a dedicated institutional unit responsible for advancing sustainable development through the Centre for Campus Sustainability (UTMCCS). UTMCCS is a centre with dedicated staff and a defined governance arrangement established specifically to coordinate and drive sustainability initiatives across the university.

UTMCCS serves as the central body for embedding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into institutional practices, ensuring that sustainability is integrated into UTM’s strategic direction and operational activities. Its vision to “ingrain sustainability in campus DNA towards developing a holistic higher education institution ecosystem” reflects its core mandate to institutionalise sustainability across all university functions.
The centre’s responsibilities include localising SDGs within UTM’s strategic thrusts, providing guidance on global sustainability practices, and strengthening education and research initiatives that address key environmental and societal challenges such as climate change. In addition, UTMCCS actively promotes community and stakeholder engagement to foster collaborative approaches to sustainable development.
Collectively, these roles demonstrate that UTM has a dedicated team UTMCCS whose sole institutional mandate is to advance sustainable development through structured coordination, SDG integration, and cross-stakeholder collaboration.
