ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT (ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY)
Assessment Tool for Assessing Sustainability Literacy and Knowledge of Staff
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has established a comprehensive institutional sustainability assessment framework through the Green Leaf Programme 2025, which functions as a structured tool to evaluate and enhance sustainability knowledge, awareness, and practices across all Responsibility Centres (PTJ), encompassing both academic and professional staff.

Embedded within the Sustainability Award initiative (Anugerah Kelestarian), this assessment serves as a centralised and mandatory mechanism for all PTJs, ensuring full institutional participation and coverage. The framework systematically measures and benchmarks sustainability performance based on the implementation of environmentally responsible practices, alignment with institutional sustainability goals, and overall contributions to environmental stewardship. Through this structured evaluation, UTM is able to assess sustainability literacy at the organisational level by examining how sustainability knowledge is translated into practice.
The Green Leaf Programme also operates as a centralised sustainability database, enabling evidence-based decision-making, performance tracking, and continuous improvement. By integrating assessment, recognition, and reporting, the framework reinforces accountability and promotes a strong culture of sustainability among staff.
UTM Pagoh was awarded the “4 Green Leaf” Sustainability Recognition at Citra Karisma 2025, reflecting excellence in environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
This approach is evidenced by UTM Pagoh’s achievement of the “4 Green Leaf” distinction at Citra Karisma 2025, demonstrating high-level sustainability integration and staff engagement. Collectively, this institutional mechanism ensures that sustainability literacy is systematically assessed, monitored, and continuously strengthened across the university.
