UTM Gallery

The Galeri UTM is explicitly presented as a publicly accessible exhibition space, functioning as a cultural and historical repository for the university community and visitors.

  • Designated Exhibition Space: The Gallery is located on Level 2 (lobby) of the Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building (Bangunan Canseleri Sultan Ibrahim), a prominent location for high visibility and ease of access. The gallery is presented with a "new look" (kini berwajah baru), indicating a commitment to its ongoing maintenance and presentation.
  • Structured Access to Artefacts/Exhibitions: The Galeri UTM is structurally organized into distinct exhibition areas: Segment A (5 exhibition sections), Segment B (11 exhibition sections), and Segment C (6 exhibition sections). This segmentation suggests a systematic method of displaying works of art and artifacts that convey the university's history, achievements, or research.
  • Cultural Significance and Official Endorsement: The official inauguration of the Galeri UTM was performed by the Chancellor of UTM, DYMM Raja Zarith Sofiah Alharhum Sultan Idris Shah, indicating the gallery's significant institutional and cultural status within the university.
  • Open Access Information: The UTM website provides directions, including a link to the Galeri UTM @ Google Map, to encourage visitation and public access to the exhibition space and its contents.

By dedicating a physically accessible space within its main administrative building and organizing its collections into structured exhibition segments, UTM effectively provides Public Access to its Galleries and Artefacts.

UTM Virtual Gallery

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) provides robust Public Access to Museums, Exhibition Spaces, or Galleries by dedicating itself to the collection, preservation, and public display of its historical heritage, spanning technology, science, engineering, and cultural arts. The UTM Gallerium acts as the central entity fulfilling this mission, complemented by extensive digital access.

  • Dedicated Public Gallery and Exhibition Spaces: The UTM Virtual Gallery website showcases multiple dedicated physical and virtual exhibition spaces, ensuring public access to its collections. These spaces include the central UTM Gallerium, Raja Zarith Sofiah Gallery, Gallery@UTMKL, and the Open Gallery located at the Sultanah Zanariah Library Foyer, which hosts rotating exhibitions.
  • Systematic Collection of Works of Art and Artifacts: The Gallerium explicitly pledges efforts to "collect, preserve, and record the university's historical heritage", focusing on a variety of "artifacts of the university that span across technology, science, engineering, and cultural arts". The site features a dedicated "ARTIFACT" section, which includes a Gallery Artifact and Documents, confirming the systematic display of works of art and historical objects.
  • Virtual and Comprehensive Digital Access: To ensure broad public reach, UTM provides an extensive Virtual Gallery and 360° VIRTUAL TOUR sections. This digital access extends the exhibition space beyond the physical building, allowing the public to view various galleries remotely, such as the Eminent Researchers Gallery and the 'ALAM BINA' Gallery.
  • Dynamic Exhibition Schedule: The gallery maintains an active schedule of current and previous exhibitions, such as the recent display for the "2023 Mustafa Prize Laureate" and the exhibition on 'UTM Vice-Chancellors: Distinguished Leadership'. These regular, high-profile events ensure the public has continuous access to new and relevant cultural and academic content.

By utilizing both physical exhibition halls and comprehensive digital platforms, UTM successfully provides and manages public access to museums, exhibition spaces, and works of art and artifacts.

KALAM Gallery

The KALAM (Build Environment in the Malay World) Centre established its gallery in June 1996 out of concern for the rapid disintegration and elimination of Malaysia's architectural heritage. Today, the KALAM Gallery is a specialized exhibition space geared toward the wider understanding of the Malay World, which spans the greater part of the Asian continent and the Pacific archipelago.

  • Dedicated Exhibition Space: The gallery is physically accessible to the public, located on Level 3 of the Faculty of Built Environment & Surveying (FABU) at UTM Johor Bahru.
  • Structured Public Hours: The gallery maintains regular public operating hours, opening daily from 8 am to 5 pm. This scheduled access ensures that the community can consistently visit and engage with the exhibits.
  • Focus on Artefacts and Works of Art: The gallery's foundation lies in preserving the built form through numerous intricate measured drawing works of history buildings. Its current focus is to understand the factors influencing the relationship between the built form and the many cultures of the Malay World. The content of the gallery, derived from measured drawings and cultural studies, functions as a collection of intellectual works of art and artifacts that showcase the region's architectural heritage.
  • Virtual Access Provision: To expand access beyond the physical building, the gallery also offers a 360° Virtual Tour. This provision ensures that the public, regardless of their geographical location, can access and appreciate the gallery's unique collection and exhibits.

By dedicating a specialized, publicly accessible physical space with a clear mission to preserve and exhibit the architectural heritage of the Malay World, the KALAM Gallery ensures comprehensive public access to museums and cultural artifacts.
